Accident victim dies days later

The accident, which occurred on April 24, claimed the life of one passenger on the spot, with the latest casualty having been admitted to Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital (NRH) Intensive Care Unit before her death.

Earlier, it was reported that the Toyota RunX had four occupants coming from Pandamatenga heading to Kasane when they hit the trailer of a truck, which had broken down.

According to Phillimon, the 32-year-old woman from Gulubane village took her last breath on Friday evening.

Phillimon revealed that the deceased had put up a fight for her life at NRH since the day of the accident.

The Kazungula police chief stated that the deceased was still in hospital for the last four days before she lost the fight on April 29. He shared that they received a report from the same hospital at around 11:30pm that she was deceased. Phillimon indicated that the other two occupants, the driver and the other passenger, are still recovering.

On another matter, the Kazungula station commander said that they have charged a 39-year-old man for failure to provide a breath specimen and driving without due care.

He said the Motswana man was travelling in the direction of Zambia when he hit the gate before the Kazungula Bridge.

Phillimon added the man sustained minor injuries whereas the car he was driving is beyond repair as it was driven straight into the culvert. In order to reduce accident, the station head urged motorists to drive cautiously and abide by all road signs.
