Tlokweng Police Station commander, superintendent Unoziba Rari said upon arrival in Tlokweng, the victim found her cousin was not home. She then, Rari said, went to look for her cousin at a place where she usually visits but once there the suspect allegedly sexually assaulted her.

“The 29-year-old suspect who is the friend of the victim’s cousin was arrested on Saturday and he is currently in police custody helping the police with investigations. He is likely to appear before Extension II Magistrate's Court today (Monday) to face a single count of rape,” he said.

Rari said the matter was reported on Saturday because the victim had kept quiet. She spent the night without disclosing to her cousin what had allegedly transpired in her absence, Rari said.

“The cousin said she noticed the victim was not herself and phoned her mother to come and talk to her only for her to disclose to have been sexually assaulted the previous afternoon. She then reported the matter to the police,” Rari said.

Rari said rape cases remain a major concern in his policing area with most of the victims being school-going girls. He said men who most of the time are perpetrators should respect women and know that 'no' means 'no'.
