The first mishap occurred on Friday night near Gantsi Beef Butchery in Gaborone West, where a Honda Fit hit a stationary vehicle parked by the roadside.

“Investigations into the matter are ongoing to establish what transpired but we only know that the driver of a Honda Fit lost his life after hitting a car parked by the roadside after it had a mechanical fault. Luckily the owner of the car was not inside the car hence escaped the accident uninjured,” the divisional traffic officer for South Central, assistant commissioner, Reginald Matlhaba said.

In another accident that occurred along Gakuto road on Saturday at around 4pm, another man who was a passenger on a Toyota Vitz met his death after the driver lost control of the car that overturned.

“We can prevent road accidents if motorists could be more cautious and exercise patience on the road at all times because the majority of accidents occur as a result of drivers’ attitudes,” he said.

Matlhaba pleaded with motorists to drive with minimal speed at night to be able to spot obstacles from a distance.
