Makwinja told Arts & Culture that his music was inspired by a lot of producers from all around the world. He, however, said for the Modern Day Sound EP project, he gives all his inspirational credit to Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa since they were the ones that got him into making Amapiano back in 2019 when the genre had not yet hit the mainstream.

Modern Day Sounds was recorded at Regalia Records and Makwinja solely produced everything top down. “All my Amapiano projects were inspired by the duo. As an artiste and brand, I currently put out my own songs in Amapiano and Hip Hop/Motswako. But when I produce for other artists, I can do any genre the artiste asks for.

I am a versatile producer. “I recently produced MMP Family's hit single dubbed Tsenya Madi, which is a Hip Hop or Sghubu song with a little touch of Amapiano on it, which was raved by the legendary Ralph "Stagga" Willaims as the best song out in Botswana right now. I also produced songs for a list of other popular local musicians such as Baxon, Ozi F Teddy and the late Sasa Klaas,” he said. This young talent started making music in 2006. He was inspired by his uncle, David Makwinja whom he grew up seeing making music with other artistes at his studio. At 11 years of age, he decided that he wanted to be a DJ. Even though he does not yet have a studio album, he has four EPs under his belt namely The Yanos released in 2019, The Yanos 2 released in 2020, iGreenLand released in 2021 and the current one, Modern Day Sounds.

He said the EP has received positive reception. Makwinja also said his music was mostly consumed in South Africa, with 62% of his listeners from South Africa and only a few from Botswana.

He further explained that they were working hard on winning the hearts of local fans. “I have mostly been doing social media promotion on all Meta platforms, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Together with my team we have being trying by all means to make friends in the industry. So soon, we will be doing promo on other media platforms like radio, TV, podcasts and newspapers. As a DJ, I produce my own music, so as part of my set during performances, I get to play my own songs to the crowds, that in turn leads to me promoting my own music, so I believe that sets me out, since most DJs rarely ever do that, they play other people's songs,” he explained.
