Taxi driver 'murders' daughters

Tatitown police station commander, Superintendent Boipuso Baatweng confirmed that the incident was reported to their satellite station between 11am and noon on Easter Monday.
Baatweng stated that the 28-year-old taxi driver arrived at home in Dikgoro ward in Chadibe village from a festival held in Francistown at around 4am. Baatweng said that upon arrival the man allegedly took his daughters aged two and four years of age to an unknown location. He further stated that he later returned at around 11am on the same day.
The Tatitown police chief added: "When he reportedly arrived, he went straight to wake his grandmother and insisted she follows him to the car. He then showed her his dead children. Baatweng indicated that the family called the police to report the matter. He further said that when the police arrived they found the two children and took them to Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital where they were certified dead upon arrival. Baatweng said that investigations are still at a preliminary stage and they are yet to establish how the man allegedly took the lives of his daughters. Baatweng stated that prior to the incident the taxi driver had had a heated argument with his ex-girlfriend during a festival.
The festival, which was dubbed Super Sunday with Franco, was held at Nyangabgwe Hill Arts Hub. According to the station commander, the taxi driver was furious when he found his ex-girlfriend with her current boyfriend. He said that after the heated argument the 28-year-old man allegedly drove his Honda Fit to Chadibe where he allegedly committed the crime. Baatweng urged partners to seek counselling on relationship matters from their elders, social workers and the police before things get out of control.
Some of the eyewitnesses at the festival reported that the taxi driver allegedly attempted to overrun both his ex-girlfriend and her current boyfriend with his car before driving away from the venue.
The suspect who is still in police custody will appear at the Francistown Magistrate's Court before the end of the week.
