Versatile MMP Family drops Amapiano single

With the new song, the trio of Modiri ‘M.O.D.’ Nage, Tebogo ‘Mzico’ Baipedi and Mothusi ‘Ples’ Jackalas have diverted from their original style to tap into the trendy Amapiano music, in a move that reflects their versatility as musicians. In an interview with Arts & Culture, M.O.D said the song is part of a collection of new songs that will make it into their upcoming Extended Play (EP) due for release in two weeks. M.O.D also explained that they were driven to do an Amapiano song because they wanted to show their versatility, as well as try to move with the times. However, he denied that they did it out of pressure to fit in with the times.
“We didn’t do Amapiano song because of pressure. We have a lot of music that we can just drop anytime. With this one, we just wanted to show our versatility, and show that we are also moving with the times because no one wants to be seen to be stuck. We are able to switch if need be. But I must say we are not moving into Amapiano.
But we are capable of doing a whole project of Amapiano if we want,” he said. M.O.D stated that they are already in the final stages before the release of their EP titled Six Pack EP, which will be made available in all digital platforms. “This single will be part of the EP. We are in the process of selecting the songs that will make part of the EP.
We have lots and lots of new music that needs to released. Some of it was made during the lockdown, so its classic music that doesn’t expire. We have to drop it. We will also have an album at a later stage,” he added. For his part, Mzico said the reception of the song has been overwhelmingly good. He said the song has been on high rotation on local radio stations.
The song, which was recorded at their Hitlab studios, so sure promises to be a hit. In the song, M.O.D maintains his hip hop element as he usually does while Mzico and Ples’ verses add the Kwaito style trademark.
