Woman allegedly raped, murdered

The Police received the report of the incident this past Friday after the septuagenarian was found lying lifeless in her bed, naked, decomposed with a deep head wound. Confirming to be investigating the case, Shoshong police assistant police station commander, assistant Superintendent George Mabuta said they received the report from the people she was working for as a house helper after they did not hear from her for a week.
Mabuta said after getting concerned that their employee had not reported for duty, they went to check on her only to be welcomed by an unpleasant odor of her lifeless body lying naked in a pool of blood.
"We suspect that the woman was raped and killed. Since her body was badly decomposed, post mortem was carried out immediately and she was laid to rest on Saturday. Through our preliminary investigations we on Saturday arrested a 30-year-old man who is currently in police custody helping us with investigations," Mabuta said.
Mabuta also said they found the suspect who is the deceased's neighbor in possession of her mobile phone and a cloth with blood stains.
Meanwhile, two suspects aged 32 and 34 years old of Phaleng ward in Shoshong were found in possession of Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC) copper cable worth P80 000.
Mabuta said they have been looking for the people who have been terrorising Shoshong and surrounding areas stealing copper cables. On Friday they made a breakthrough, following a tip off, and two suspects were arrested by Sojwe police after they tried to flee.
He stated that the quartet were arrested by Sojwe police during a stop and search operation after they were found in possession of copper cable worth P80 000 inside their Toyota Wish car which they failed to account for.
"When stopped by the police, two other suspects escaped and investigations are ongoing to locate and arrest them. We have since contacted BTC and have identified the copper cables and disclosed their value," Mabuta said
