Ditiro Leero, Dr Vom headline Madikwe Cultural festival

While DT, as Leero is commonly known as more into traditional music, he and Dr Vom are some of the best when it comes to Dikhwaere music genre in the country.
The two have collaborated on a number of hits including Thobane, a timeless tune, which has dominated local festivals for 15 years now. Despite their seemingly intuitive chemistry in the recording studio, the two have rarely performed together, denying the public a chance to watch them do songs together on stage. Their recent performance cameo together at the Soul Fill up With Franco festival clearly proved that Batswana have been eagerly waiting to see the two share the stage.
The upcoming cultural festival could be a perfect opportunity for the two talented artists to share the stage and perform their collaborations for the enjoyment of patrons who will grace the event, something Dr Vom has hinted to. Dr Vom said they would treat revellers to good performances of Dikhwaere music. He also stated that this could be an opportunity for him and Leero to perform their songs together for the patrons. “I know people always want to see me perform with him. It is possible and we would definitely do it if the chance presents itself,” he told Arts & Culture.
Others who will perform on the same day include DJ Trax, Moologa, and Makgatlheng Choir while Botho Powane will thrill with poetry and traditional dance offering. Event spokesperson, Ben Ngwato said during a press conference last Friday that apart from performances, Madikwe Cultural Festival would offer the best Sekgatla culture. He said the event would be filled with cultural activities and exhibition of different cultural products. Ngwato said patrons would also be educated on the Bakgatla culture. “There will be entertainment galore on the day such as dance and song, poetry by different local poets, traditional dance and so many more.
There will also be Setswana food stalls where the revellers can enjoy Setswana foods such as bogobe jwa lerotse, morogo wa dinawa, dikgobe, letshotlho, seswaa, lengangale, mosutlhane and many more,” said Ngwato. The festival, whose intention is to help preserve the Bakgatla culture, is a brainchild of the Powane family.
Ngwato explained that the festival would promote intercultural understanding and showcase various rich and diverse cultural expressions. He indicated that they expect close to 500 patrons to grace the event. He appealed to corporates to partner or sponsor the event. Tickets for the festival sell for P200 standard, P400 VIP, P400 standard double and P800 VIP double. They are available at Seaway Pilane mall & Mmabatho Bar Mmathubudukwane.
