Shoshong police assistant police station commander, assistant superintendent George Simataa Mabuta said the incident occurred at Mathabanela cattlepost on Wednesday night.

Mabuta said when interrogated by the police, the suspect revealed to have had a misunderstanding with his 38-year-old girlfriend that night when returning from the shebeen and he ended up beating her with a chain until she got unconscious.

“The suspect claimed that his girlfriend had slept out the previous night hence the reason for their misunderstanding because he wanted to know where she had slept. The suspect also said out of anger, he pulled the nearest chain and whipped her until she fell unconscious. He said he left her lying on the floor to sleep only to find her lifeless when waking up the following morning and reported the matter to their neighbour who reported the incident to the police,” he said.

Mabuta said after receiving the report, the police rushed to the crime scene and took the woman to the hospital where she was confirmed dead by doctors upon arrival.

“The deceased had sustained head injuries and bruises all over the body. Her body is currently at Mahalapye Hospital mortuary awaiting post- mortem,” Mabuta said.
