Mahupela appeared for arraignment before Francistown Magistrate's Court on Monday.

According to the documents read in court, the 55-year-old was charged with unlawful wounding and arson.

It is alleged that Mahupela on March 31 at around 1am unlawfully wounded one Lorato Seleka by stabbing her with a table knife on the head, upper lip, nose and left shoulder causing her multiple wounds.

Furthermore, the accused person set the victim's house on fire.

Reports are that Mahupela and Seleka were cohabitating and on the fateful day just before the incident, they had a heated argument.

When motivating reasons why the accused person cannot be granted bail, prosecutor Chilume Mpena told Magistrate Kesego Alstadt-Lekgwere of the Francistown Magistrate’s Court, the matter is still fresh and investigations are still ongoing.

He, therefore, applied for the accused person to be remanded in jail because the victim is still hospitalised and there is a likelihood for the charges to be amended.

Alstadt-Lekgwere made an order that the accused be incarcerated and appear in court next week on April 14 for a bail hearing.
