Francistown Police Station commander, Superintendent Lebalang Maniki told The Monitor they are still searching for the baby girl’s mother, family or relatives.

He stated that the toddler is still alive and being nursed at NRH.

“The child is still in our care and if it happens we do not find her mother or other relatives we will engage our stakeholders involving non-governmental organisations for the way forward on the upbringing of the child,” he added.

Early this month Francistown police launched a search for the mother, family or relatives of a newborn baby who was dumped at Ntshe location on March 8.

She was found wrapped in a maroon baby blanket and is currently in the care of NRH. In a previous interview, the police suspected that the mother did not go to hospital but rather had a home birth. ‘Any information regarding this baby should be communicated to Francistown Police Station on the following numbers: 2412229, 2412227, and 2412230,999 or visit the nearest police station.’
