Deputy Divisional Traffic Officer for South-Central, Senior Superintendent Boiki Mojalemotho told The Monitor that the deceased was driving alone when the accident occurred.

He said the accident that was reported at around 1:30pm occurred near the Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) plant towards the landfill.

“After receiving the report the police rushed to the scene, took him to Bamalete Lutheran Hospital where he was certified dead by doctors on arrival. We do not know what transpired but we suspect that the deceased who was driving a Toyota Runx might have lost control of the car and it overturned,” he said.

Mojalemotho said despite the accident having occurred during the day they cannot rule out the possibility of drunk and driving, especially since it was a month-end weekend.

“Accidents that involve alcohol remain a concern, especially amongst the youth who also have the habit of driving with excessive speed. However, speeding is dangerous because should a mistake happen innocent lives could be lost,” he said.
