The decision was taken by the regional committee last Friday during a meeting for all the concerned parties. Deputy secretary-general Shaw Kgathi was sent by the party chairperson to intervene and ordered the regional committee to resolve the matter amicably.

Kgathi was sent to get information about the happenings in the Mogoditshane constituency. Kweneng regional secretary Obakeng Kgabo confirmed that the decision has been overturned. “We have asked them to try to work together for the sake of the party. Again, they have a mandate to ensure that lower structures get renewed.

Therefore, even the branch committee congress will be held in two weeks. The party members will make their decision at the congress for that constituency. I hope there will be peace after meeting all the structures and finding an amicable solution to all problems of the constituency.” Kgabo said in an interview on Wednesday. This came after some members of the branch committee wrote a letter to the Kweneng regional committee secretary, Kgabo, dated October 19, 2020. The letter read as follows: “The regional committee would like to invite all branch committee members for a meeting to be held on Thursday 22/10/2020 at 17:00pm at the Grand Palm Hotel.

The agenda of the meeting is (recommendation for the removal of branch chairman). Only a committee of 18 is invited for this meeting”. Recently the branch has been failing to resolve the Mogoditshane branch issues or hear their concerns as some within the regional committee were accused of being conflicted. When defending the issue, Kgabo said the matter could have long been resolved but they were delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. BDP members in the area are divided in terms of those alleged to be pro-Rakgare and the anti-Rakgare,” a source said in an interview, referring to Tumiso Rakgare, who is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Mogoditshane.

The BDP members within the Mogoditshane constituency have not been at peace amongst themselves since 2018 and the party leadership had been trying to resolve their conflicts without success. According to an insider, the members are simply fighting for the control of the constituency as those who are anti-Rakgare support Tshuba.
