Commander of Francistown Police Station, Lebalang Maniki confirmed the incident adding that officers have since opened cases of unnatural offences against the suspect.

He stated that so far the man is being investigated for two cases of the three unnatural offences.

Maniki indicated that the bestiality incidents were reported to the police by the owners of the animals.

“The suspect was detained last week Friday and was released on Monday. We are still collecting all the evidence in the matters and the suspect will appear in court as soon as our investigations are complete,” the Francistown police chief said.

However, he declined to share further details on the matter as investigations were still ongoing.

According to reliable sources who reside in the same neighbourhood as the suspect and the owner of the animals that were allegedly sexually abused by the suspect, Monarch Area 2 residents are furious and want the suspect they believe has been tormenting their animals for a long period to be jailed.

However, the sources added that the residents are now upset after the suspect was released following some questioning by the police.

The alleged animal cruelty incident took place at Sepale ward, Dovedale on August 5, 2021, under the jurisdiction of the Machaneng police.

This is not the first bestiality incident in the country as amongst previously recorded cases was from last year of a 28-year-old man of Dovedale village who was suspected of sexually assaulting a goat.

Back in 2015, a Zimbabwean man aged 23 was also accused of unlawfully having carnal knowledge of a donkey on August 27 at Phuduhudu lands near Palapye.
