The first mishap occurred on Wednesday night at around 9.46pm at Palamaokue lands between Serule and Moreomabele villages along the A1 highway, which involved a truck that had two occupants, the 37-year-old driver and a 45-year-old passenger.

Officer commanding, senior superintendent Paul Oketsang said the truck was traveling from the south facing north when the accident occurred. Oketsang said the driver was trying to avoid hitting cattle that were crossing the road when he lost control of the car and it overturned. “The 45-year-old passenger died on the spot while the driver was treated for minor injuries and released the same night,” he said. In another accident, a 39-year-old man who was also a passenger in a Mercedes Benz combi met his death after their vehicle hit a truck that had parked by the roadside after it had a mechanical fault.

Oketsang said the deceased had sustained serious head injuries and fractured legs while the 49-year-old driver escaped with minor ones. “I am pleading with motorists to drive with minimal speed at night to be able to spot obstacles from a distance. We can prevent road accidents if motorists could be cautious and exercise patience on the road at all times because the majority of accidents occur as a result of drivers’ attitudes,” Oketsang said.
