Police suspect that the 17-year-old boy might have been selling drugs to other learners looking at the quantity.

Officer Commanding, senior Superintendent Paul Oketsang said the learner and 12 other suspects were arrested following a weeklong routine operation by the North-Central division in Palapye after they were found in possession of dagga.

Oketsang said they had established that dagga is being smuggled into the Central District with high numbers from the southern part of Botswana. He added that the operation had targeted shebeens and they made a breakthrough with 13 cases.

“All of the suspects were found in possession of substances suspected to be dagga and we suspect that they have been selling them to members of the community. We are unable to keep up with the rising dagga cases,” Oketsang said.

Furthermore, he revealed that through their preliminary investigations they managed to locate and arrest the learner’s supplier who was also found in possession of dagga.

Oketsang said they managed to confiscate dagga estimated to weigh seven kilogrammes with a street value of P10,500 from the 13 suspects. He further said they have taken the samples of the substances to the forensic laboratory for analysis and following the outcomes of the results that is when the suspects will be charged with unlawful possession of dagga.
