The deputy divisional traffic officer for South Central, senior superintendent Boiki Mojalemotho said the accident occurred on Saturday at 1.50am by Lemmenyane/Limpopo traffic lights. Mojalemotho stated that the car had three men on board. “We do not have full details at the moment, but it appears that the driver lost control of the car, hit the pavement and the car overturned. The driver of the car died on the spot while another passenger, aged 37, lost his life while hospitalised at PMH later in the morning at around 10am,” he said.

He further stated that they are yet to establish what caused the accident from the surviving passenger who is currently fighting for his life at PMH. “We do not know who the surviving passenger is hence we are hoping for him to recover so that he can tell us what caused the accident,” Mojalemotho said.

Meanwhile, Mojalemotho said they are also investigating another serious accident in which the 27-year-old male driver of a Toyota Vitz also lost control of the car, which overturned in Old Naledi, Gaborone on Friday night.

He stated that the car had five passengers that sustained minor injuries, who were all treated and released the same day. “The driver sustained serious head injuries and a fractured hand and is currently hospitalised at Gaborone Private Hospital while investigations into the matter are ongoing. We suspect that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and we have sent his blood samples to the laboratory for further tests,” Mojalemotho said.
