A.T.I targets students through drug awareness

The road show dubbed ‘I Choose Right Students Motivational Talks’, comes just weeks after the controversial yet talented A.T.I announced that he will be hosting his one-man show called the As One Music Concert’. According to the organisers of the As One Music Concert, the ‘I Choose Right Students Motivational talks’ roadshow is aimed at encouraging junior and senior secondary school students to stay focused and alert them of the dangers of drugs and substance abuse.
A.T.I, who is a self-confessed recovering drug addict, said he will use his experience to assist students choose wisely. “Through our engagement with various stakeholders in the education sector, we have come to appreciate that substance abuse is prominent within the student community, with children engaging in the use of various substances that are not only detrimental to their health and wellness, but also eroding their future.
Having been exposed to such substances in my teenage years and continued use in my adult life, I believe that I can guide them, based on my experience, and share with them just how regressive drugs and substances are,” said A.T.I.
He further highlighted that the motivational talks also aim to inspire the students to believe in themselves and follow their passion and dreams; academic, vocational, or artistic.
A.T.I said it is vital is for them to stay grounded and take coaching from their teachers who are instrumental in fine tuning their respective talents. “Education is very important. Students must be reminded of this but should also be supported to nurture their God-given talents as much as possible. If they are supported and encouraged, they will flourish in the right place.
Parents also have a role to play in the equation and must rise to the occasion,” he added. The first motivational talk was held at Oodima Junior Secondary School in Oodi. The next one will be held today at the Francistown Senior Secondary School. The students’ motivational talks are delivered as part of the As One Music Concert sustainability programme, and in partnership with the Botswana Substance Abuse Support Network (BOSASNet).
