According to Tutume police station commander, superintendent Jerry Halahala, the suspected unknown Zimbabwean national committed suicide between February 24 and 25 in Nkange village.

Halala said the 26-year-old man hanged himself from a tree using a rope at Ipongo ward. He indicated that the matter was reported by passersby who were running their personal errands in the area. Halahala added: “After the matter was reported to the police, villagers were unable to identify the man. It was after two days that some Zimbabwean natives reached out and gave us information regarding the man who they claimed also originated from Zimbabwe.” Furthermore, he said the informers were shocked that the man took his life as they described him as brave and was always in a cheerful mood.

He said on Monday they reached out to Interpol and they are hoping to get feedback sooner.

Halahala also said the deceased did not leave any suicide note.

Meanwhile, Letlhakane police are concerned about an increase in cases of house breaking in their policing area since January. Superintendent Michael Maphephu of Letlhakane police said criminals target houses when occupants are at work and left no one behind. He added: “Recently we arrested four young men in connection with the crimes and recovered some properties worth P12,000 such as electric gadgets and some food stuff.” Maphephu urged people to install some form of security in their houses.

The Letlhakane police chief indicated that their officers are on the ground, resuscitating neighborhood watches, which were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. He also encouraged members of the community to put tools such as pick shovels and others in safe places as they can be used by criminals.
