The police officer in the rank of Sub-Inspector took his life with a pellet gun inside his car at the SSG residential parking lot on Wednesday morning. Details however remain sketchy regarding what could have influenced his action.

Central Police Station commander, Superintendent Mothusi Phadi said the case points to suicide following prior involvement in an accident.

“The deceased was on February 19, 2022, at around 10pm involved in an accident along Nyerere road by Maruapula traffic lights,” explained Phadi.

“Then, the deceased had hit a pedestrian, fled the crime scene and later provided the police with false information on who was driving the car on the fateful night. The victim is currently recuperating at Princess Marina Hospital.”

Phadi said the deceased was found in a pool of blood with a pellet gun in his possession inside his car. It is suspected he might have used the pellet gun to shoot himself.

“This is a strange incident to have happened in our policing area this year. We are currently investigating two cases in which people committed suicide after they were involved in a car accident. I am pleading with people not to be hard on themselves after being involved in an accident but rather seek help or advice on the matter,” Phadi added.

He stated that people should know that committing suicide is not a solution because they leave their families traumatised.
