Netball league secures Lucara deal

While there have been no official details of the deal, sources said the sponsorship is for three years, while the figure remains unknown. The sponsorship is expected to cover both the women's and men’s leagues.
The Under-20 national team will also benefit, according to sources. BONA public relations officer, Mokeresete Mokeresete said details of the sponsorship will be revealed at the launch. “Details for the sponsorship have been kept a secret. I cannot reveal the terms and conditions of the agreement,” he said. Mokeresete said negotiations between BONA and Lucara started in 2021.
The last time the women’s netball league had a sponsor was in 2018 with Spar Botswana on board in what was the longest partnership, which commenced in 2010. Despite getting a lifeline from the diamond mining company, it has not been a walk in the park for the executive committee.
The treasurer resigned from her position citing that she was protecting her Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants license. BONA is yet to appoint a new treasurer. Mokeresete said they have identified the new treasurer. “We want the candidate to start work as soon as possible. The name will be revealed after everything has been finalised,” he said.
