The World Athletics Junior gold medalist had no contest in his first 100m race this year. He went into the race as a favourite despite the red card that he received in Francistown last weekend due to a false start. Tebogo has already qualified for Africa Senior Championships and World Youth Championships. His next target is to qualify for Oregon World Championships. In the senior women’s 100m race, Boitshepiso Kelapile of Maun BDF athletics club qualified for Africa Senior Championships after clocking 11.94.

Tsaone Sebele also had a good day in the office outclassing Oarabile Tshosa in women’s 100m clocking 11.43. Tshosa followed closely with 11.50. Zimbabwean sprinter, Ngoni Makusha claimed the men’s 100m clocking 10.40. The Olympian was in the country to kick start his 2022 season. Leungo Scotch was pushing behind him to stop the clock at 10.49. Ditiro Sebele finished third with a time of 10.56. Thuso Masasa continued his brilliant form peddling away from Zibani Ngozi to win heat four with a time of 10.38. Speaking to Sport Monitor, Tebogo said he was surprised by the time that he had run. “I do not know where it comes from. I am not even sure what it means because it is not a World Championships qualify, because for that I need 10.05 or maybe it is for Commonwealth Games.

Regarding last week’s incident has passed and I do not want to think about it,” said the excited Tebogo. He said ahead of the race, his training programme was twisted by his coach and the plan has worked. Tebogo said his next target is to qualify for the World Championships in 100m and 200m. The qualification time for 100m at the World Championships is 10.05.

Tebogo said at the World Junior his race is 400m. He has qualified for the junior with 46.00. For her part, Kelapile said she was excited about her achievement and it was something she least expected. “My plan was to also run 200m but it did not happen because there were challenges with the starter. So, both men and women 200m races were cancelled,” she said. Kelapile said she it was an easy qualification but if she was in the same heat with Sebele and Tshosa, she could have run faster. Meanwhile, Makusha said it was his first competition after the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. “To me it was a preparation for the season to see where I am interms of fitness and where I need to work during training. The race was fine but the race was delayed. There were some technical problems with the blocks,” he said.
