Local multimedia company to participate in WOMEX

WOMEX is one of the biggest and most diverse professional conference, trade fair and showcase festival exclusively dedicated to world, global, roots, folk, ethnic, traditional, local and diaspora music of all kinds. The expo offers a unique opportunity for diverse creatives to meet, share information, make contacts, discover new talents and establish business.

Following a proposal to WOMEX for Botswana representation, Garero Multimedia Agency on Tuesday finally got the nod to be part of the expo accompanied by a letter of support for funding. In an interview with the director of Garero Multimedia Agency, Fumani Eddie Tekere said this is a dream come true for his company. He said the acceptance to participate at the expo would afford local creatives an opportunity to show their talent to the rest of the world and market their businesses.

He explained that after receiving a letter of support from WOMEX, they have started looking for funding for the pre-WOMEX workshops in Botswana, costs of content proposals, as well as any costs for flights, hotel accommodation and incidentals for all representatives travelling to WOMEX. He stated preparations are already underway to host a local conference, which they anticipate to be held by the first week of March. “We are looking to identify funding from government and private sector who can ensure our creatives would travel to Portugal.

I’m in talks with Limkokwing University and MYSC and Brand Botswana to facilitate the conference once it’s a go! We should do it by first week of March,” said Tekere. Tekere further called on more organisations such as Companies and Intellectual Property Authority (CIPA), Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA), Arts Council, Botswana National Youth Council (BNYC) and Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) to come on board and assist with funds. Tekere said the idea is to get as many of Botswana’s talent to Portugal, although that would depend on their qualification. He stated that the goal is to export the best of Botswana's creative talent to the rest of the world.
