BFA receives P7m from FIFA

There were reports that the governing body might delay releasing the funds to the association after it emerged the BFA misallocated P6 million, which was meant for FIFA projects. A FIFA delegation was in Botswana late last year to investigate the misallocation of funds. Mmegi Sport has established that P7 million from FIFA has been deposited into BFA's account two weeks ago, a move which will come as a relief to the cash-strapped association.
It remains to be seen if the association will receive funding from government following the misuse of FIFA funds. The government recently warned that it will not give the association funds for the upcoming financial year if there is no proper accountability. Reports are that the association will not face heavy sanctions from FIFA for misallocating funds.
They say FIFA has only warned that its subvention should not in future be reallocated without its knowledge. They added that FIFA also exercised lenience because the money was not misused but channelled to other BFA operations instead of projects approved by the world soccer governing body. The BFA is expected to part ways with its chief executive officer, Goabaone Taylor, who on Wednesday was found guilty of using the association’s funds without the approval of the executive committee.
Taylor was supposed to be sacked on Wednesday moments after her judgment, but the move was delayed for unknown reasons. BFA first vice president, Marshlow Motlogelwa resigned this week in relation to the financial crisis. Motlogelwa was tasked with overseeing the association's purse due to his vast knowledge in financial matters. He is a qualified chartered account. Mmegi Sport failed to get a comment from BFA acting CEO, Tshepo Mphukuti and president Maclean Letshwiti.
