The event is aimed at sharing the Kalanga culture with other Batswana from the southern part of Botswana. In an interview with Arts & Culture, Sekgabo said the occasion was a cultural event that would showcase the Kalanga culture in the south of the country. She explained that the event was meant to bring together Bakalanga and introduce their culture to Batswana at large with food and music.

“Shanganani Cultural festival is different from other cultural events because we will be promoting Kalanga culture and taking it to people from different tribes in Botswana more especially those in the south part of the country.

Unlike other events that generalise cultural events to diverse cultures, ours is focused on the Kalanga culture.” “I was inspired to bring this event here because many Kalanga people are staying, working, schooling and married to people in the south. They spend a lot of time without going home. Most Kalanga dishes are hard to find in the south.

We will do this event in March because it is Letlhafula time and phane will be still fresh. There will be plenty of thepe because of rains as fruits and vegetables will be fresh from the farm,” she said. Sekgabo explained that the event was important to them because they will be empowering artists, small businesses and Gabane residents. She said their traditional beer will be made in Gabane and even the event will be hosted in the village, which will also give lodges and guest houses businesses as many people will book accommodation there. They will not be bringing in international artists but decided to bring in a 100% local talent in the likes of Ndingo Johwa, Lister Boleseng and Mafitlhakgosi Traditional group just to mention but a few. They will be captivating the audience with ndazola and hosanna dances.

The master of ceremony for day will be Big Fish. The food that will be served at the event include zengwe, delele, dhobi and others. “There will also be children’s games like zip line, electric merry, flying flight jets and paddle cars. Food will be inclusive on both tickets for P250 and P350.

Tickets are sold at P100 for children, P150 hosanna (general) tickets and it includes food. We also have Tjimomi (VIP) tickets for P350 and it is inclusive of food, VIP parking, seating arrangements close to the stage, free cooler box and brewed traditional beer,” she added.
