BNOC CEO hunt raises eyebrows

The BNSC Board is under pressure to appoint a CEO after Tapiwa Marobela-Masunga, who had been offered the job, changed her mind. Game Mothibi, who headed the International Working Group for women in sport secretariat was the next in line, with former BNSC sport development manager Steve Bothasitse the third choice. Motswetla was at number four, the reports say. “After Marobela-Masunga turned them down, they decided to head hunt because they did not get their preferred candidate.
It is surprising because one would have thought that they would have gone with a candidate who was shortlisted,” a source said. The source further said one of the candidates who is being head hunted did not make it into the top list. This publication is informed that there was drama after the advert was pulled down before deadline for submissions. Marobela-Masunga said she turned down the offer due to her personal and professional reasons. Bothasitse said he went for the interview but has no idea as to what is happening.
A source said the company that carried out interviews called the candidates to inform them that they did not make the cut. Delays in appointing a substantive CEO has riled some of the affiliates. “The board is playing hide and seek with the appointment. It was also unnecessary for the BNOC to hire a consultant to conduct the process when affiliates are struggling with funds,” a source said. Efforts to reach BNOC president, Colonel Botsang Tshenyego proved futile as he promised to return the call but had not done so at press time.
Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development (MYSC) permanent secretary Kago Ramokate said he could not comment on the issue because it was the responsibility of the BNOC Board. “That is a matter for the BNOC Board,” he said. When asked if the delay in appointing the CEO had anything to do with pending BNSC/BNOC merger or the review of the BNSC Act, Ramokate said everything was dependent on the new Act. “Drafting is currently ongoing, following which there would be consultation before consideration by Cabinet and Parliament,” Ramokate said.
