Criminal case opened against DJ Maphorisa

Sebina said he had booked DJ Maphorisa and paid him R100 000 last year in October but the Amapiano giant did not pitch up. “At the time his management told us ‘he just don’t want to come’ but we learnt that he also had an event same night at Konka in SA. Up to now they have not refunded me nor given me a new date of a makeup performance. I have since opened a criminal case against him to be arrested upon entering Botswana,” he revealed.
Sebina also said they have information that is DJ Maphorisa coming to Botswana tomorrow. He said DJ Maphorisa will also be served with a P1 million summons for event damages.
Confirming the case, Pheli Ndaba Gumede from the Central Police Station Crime Investigation Department said it is true that Sebina had opened a case against the SA artist. Asked whether they will arrest DJ Maphorisa upon entry into Botswana, Gumede said they haven’t decided on the matter yet because they are still investigating the issue. He said they have not determined what DJ Maphorisa will be charged with therefore everything will be decided tomorrow. Real name Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe, DJ Maphorisa is headlining an event hosted by United Lounge in partnership with Hummer Entertainment tomorrow at United Lounge in Block 6.
After failing to perform at the festival held at Royal Aria Stadium last year, DJ maphorisa received a lot of backlash from Batswana who felt that SA artists have a tendency of pulling out no shows in Botswana. DJ Maphorisa felt the pressure from Batswana who were commenting on each of his Facebook posts. “Le tla ba strong shame, not everything will go your way,” he posted on his Facebook page on November 30, 2021. “You are so disrespectful, your office is not even communicating with us at all and you are busy posting other events, oska wara ketlo dila le wena wa talla blind,” a distraught Sebina commented on DJ Maphorisa’s post at the time.
