Wanderers netball team rebrands

Orapa Wanderers netball team manager, Rebecca Kaponene said they aim to register and start using the new name by March 2022. She said they will miss all the netball competitions during the rebranding process.

Kaponene said ebranding the team is long overdue as they have stayed inactive for years since their sporting club was dissolved. She said they failed to meet over the last two years to discuss the matter due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Kaponene said they have scheduled a series of meetings to discuss their rebranding process. The official said financial constraints were a hindrance to registering the new name but added, they will find means to source money and resources through fundraising activities. She said Orapa Wanderers Sporting Club was dissolved during the formation of Orapa United Football Club.

Kaponene said five football teams from the sporting clubs including Bucs, Wanderers, Boteti, White Diamonds and Swallows United came together to form Orapa United.

She said the development resulted in the dissolution of other sporting codes in the same sporting club, making their existence null and void. Since then Kaponene said they were stripped of the records hence could not get any sponsorship from companies. She said that they are left with 10 players as some of their top stars left in search of greener pastures at teams like Prisons and Notwane.

“Those who remained with the team are still practising, attending the gym and doing other fitness drills until all is settled.”

Orapa Wanderers netball team was one of the best performing teams in the north, acquitting themselves well during different competitions such as My Spar My Botswana League.
