The donation, worth thousands included soccer kits, training wear, nets, soccer balls, markers, bibs and cones among others. Among the teams donated to is the Matebele FC, which is currently competing in the Debswana First Division South.

BBP director Ezekiel Malenya explained that the gesture was intended to help get the youth out of the streets and do something beneficial with their lives.

He said the donation came with a view to meet the local community leadership halfway, adding that their vision was to help local football teams develop young talent and better.

“When the area councillor approached us, we felt that this is another opportunity to uplift the social and economic lives of the community. We chose to assist football teams because we realised that football could be another way of taking the youth from the streets because they like the sport. We will also put up a flood solar light in the area,” Malenya said.

Malenya added apart from the donations, they intend to organise football-coaching clinics to assist in nurturing young talent in the area.

He also said they intend to build a community library, to help school-going youth develop a culture of reading and research to improve their academic performance. BBP is an organisation that serves as a catalyst for literacy, education, youth empowerment, and library development throughout Botswana for free. Since its establishment in 1998, the BBP has resulted in the creation of over 300 libraries and distribution of over one million books throughout Botswana.
