Music industry mourns Kgosi Maburu

The news of Sebulelo’s death broke out Friday morning. It is said that Kgosi Maburu as he was known by his colleagues in the industry and fans died at Bokamoso Private Hospital in Mmopane, where he was hospitalised following a brain surgery.

The talented singer who hails from Ghanzi died at the age of 33.

As a crescendo of tributes pours from across the country powers in, Lesokwane has described Kgosi Maburu’s talent as a very unique and out of this world person. He said despite his young age, Kgosi Maburu was already an iconic figure as his new and unique style had already won a huge following.

“We have really lost a very creative artist in the music industry. When you listen to his music, it was something of a different concept that most Batswana appreciated it,” said Lesokwane.

Lesokwane also said Kgosi Maburu’s creativity was there for all to see as he introduced a different style of traditional music to what is common in the part of the country he hails from.

“It was surprising because Kgosi Maburu was from Ghanzi, Kgalagadi area. From that side we know that their traditional music is Tsutsube, but he was more of a difference. That gave him a chance to penetrate the music industry, because of the uniqueness of his concept. We have really lost an important person. The industry has lost someone who was ready to change the environment of the music industry with his productions. We have lost an icon,” he added.

Kgosi Maburu shot to prominence with his album Maburu, which has hits such as Tsegana ya ga lengangau, Bona Berakgo and Maburu.

Born April 4, 1989 Kalkfontein, Ghanzi the talented singer took pride in his culture and roots, which is Shekgalagari. It is said that the rhythm of his music is motivated & guided by the district he comes from.

Speaking to Showtime monitor on Sunday,Kgosi Maburu’s sister Kekgathetse Sebulelo said arrangements for the funeral were on going. However, she said the family was yet to decide on the date of the burial.
