Paint and Sip to shape urban cultural trends

The two aim to bring about wellness and healing during the trying times of the COVID-19 pandemic. This unique event is created to bring together the community, friends, and family for a fun and engaging activity with a light-hearted twist painting.

“We are committed to bringing a sense of hope and wellness as well as grow the appreciation for culture and arts in the city,” Bobo said. The event dubbed ‘The Valentine’s Special’ will be held in Extension 10, Gaborone on February 13, from 3pm to 6pm and is suited for all audiences. It offers a step-by-step guided painting session. The painting instructor is a talented 27-year-old street artist, Obakeng Rodney Keitemoge known as Art by Rodney, who has partnered with the event hosts.

“We teach everyone to paint on canvas, imparting skills on how to produce a masterpiece painting. These paintings are the ones that the artist would be proud of. Everyone was happy with the artwork they produced at the last paint and sip. Couples who painted separately had their paintings merged and framed together. It was amazing.” Rodney revealed.

He added that he teaches people to appreciate art by raising cultural awareness and how Batswana express themselves. Art by Rodney runs his gallery at the main mall where he produces portrait drawings, paintings, and customised clothing.

Bobo also noted that the recent installment of Paint and Sip held this past December was a success. “Beautiful portraits were done by novice painters. The highlight of the event was the healing process through creative expression experienced by attendees.

They enjoyed the ambient environment of aesthetic music with the backdrop of sunset scenery whilst sipping on their beverage of choice expressing themselves through the art of painting.” Bobo said.

“Whether you want to discover painting with friends, family, or colleagues; self-expression through color in a unique way; get together for a girls night out or a couples date; unwind or have an hour or two for some fun and laughter with friends, Paint and Sip is the event that provides these rare creative and cultural experiences and is a very welcome development in Gaborone in terms of event variety”, she said.

Tickets for the event are available at Webtickets nationwide at P300 for individuals and P500 for a double ticket and cover the cost of paint, brushes, and canvas used, training by Art By Rodney and includes a complimentary glass of wine or alternative beverage. A wide variety of wines and light refreshments will be available for purchase. Attendance is limited due to COVID-19 Protocols.
