African Copper Reorganises Its Management

 

The  Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) listed company has appointed Christopher Reid Fredericks as Chief Executive Officer. He was formerly the company's Chief Operating Officer.

It is expected that Fredericks will join the Board of Directors on July 1, 2008. He takes over from Joseph Hamilton who has resigned as Chief Executive Officer and from the Board of Directors with mutual consent. Fredericks has an extensive track record with over 29 years experience in base metal mining and exploration from exposure to large-scale open pit and underground mining operations in Zambia, Botswana and South Africa.

The 54-year-old holds a degree in Geology from Rhodes University, South Africa. He joined the company in January 2007 from LionOre Mining International where he held various senior operating and corporate positions.

Most  recently, he was employed by LionOre Africa head office in Johannesburg as the Business Development Executive, having been transferred from the flagship Tati Nickel operation in Botswana where he was the general manager. He has actively been involved with the commissioning, development and growth of a number of mining projects from their inception through to full-scale production and, as such he brings exceptional professional and technical skills that will assist the company to establish itself as a new copper producer.

Fredericks does not hold any ordinary shares in the company. He is currently a director of Messina Copper Botswana (Pty) Limited and Matsitama Minerals (Pty) Limited. The companies are subsidiaries of African Copper.

Roy Corrans, the chairman of the company has said they are delighted that Fredericks has agreed to become Chief Executive Officer. 'His experience ideally complements the strong construction and operating team we have assembled in Botswana. We look forward to him leading the company as it enters the next phase of its development, deploying his significant operational experience in base metal mining.'
