The 4.7 million doses include two million from Pfizer, 1.35 million from Johnson & Johnson, as well as 500,000 from Moderna. Other suppliers include AstraZeneca, Sinovac and COVAXIN.

The purchases began early last year through bilateral arrangements and multi-country arrangements such as COVAX.

"As a result, Botswana currently had more than three million doses of various COVID-19 vaccines in hand for all citizens and residents aged 12 years and above," Nyanga said.

With a population of 2.4 million, Botswana had fully vaccinated 45.7 percent of its total population by January 20, the last data available.

The country has also eased off its Omicron wave dating back to early December, with the last data indicating a seven-day moving average of less than 50 cases per 100,000 countrywide.
