Cases of joggers being robbed of their cellphones while taking an evening run are on the rise along the Sir Seretse Khama Airport road. Sir Seretse Khama police station commander, superintendent Mpho Sebako said they recently recorded three cases.

He said in all the incidents, the victims were attacked and robbed or either their cars being broken into after leaving them by the roadside while taking an evening run. Sebako appealed to members of the public to always go out in pairs or more when jogging and not carry valuables like cellphones. “Recently a woman was attacked by a man who pretended to be jogging, but later returned to rob her of P25,000 cellphone. People train very late along this road,” Sebako said. “The recent matter was reported after 2100hrs.

I am pleading with joggers to refrain from taking their runs after 1900hrs because that road is bushy and does not have traffic when compared to other roads around the city.” He stated those who escape the attacks while jogging mostly find their cars broken into and valuables stolen after leaving their cars parked by the roadside.
