Friday 21, 2022 would forever remain memorable in the lives of the five winners of the vehicles, which were the grand prizes for the competition. The five winners are Maipelo Tsekoetsile from Mathethe Choppies, Lorato Tsele from Gaborone Choppies (Station), Bernard Maphanyane from Gaborone Choppies (West Gate mall), Neo Mazhani from Francistown Choppies and Mothusi Khutsafalo from Shoshong Choppies.

The 18th edition of the Big Birthday Bonanza competition courtesy of Botswana’s retail giant, Choppies, ended on Friday after running from October 2021 to January 7, 2022.

The grand finale draw was held at Commerce Park in Gaborone. Supermarket officials and suppliers attended the draw, which was also conducted in the presence of the media. The winners emerged from a draw, which they entered upon purchasing select products sold by Choppies at its different stores across the country. Still on the same day, 91 lucky customers won P15,000 cash each following the draw while there were also awards of P10,000 cash prizes for 10 lucky Choppies employees. Just like the car winners, the cash prizes winners could not have hoped for better outcome, as they will now be able to beat the 'January blues' with their winnings.

According to Choppies Marketing marketing manager, Katlego Gaborone, this year’s competition gave away P4 million in total worth of prizes. “We are gathered here to share in a momentous occasion. We have been giving away amazing prizes.

Every week, we have given away P1,500 worth of vouchers and P2,000 worth of vouchers monthly at every store in Botswana. And this morning we were able to give away P15,000 to 91 customers,” Gaborone said.

She said the 18th edition has been a momentous occasion, made possible by the support from their suppliers. Gaborone said Choppies will always find a way to give back to its customers who have displayed loyalty and contributed to the growth of the retail giant. Choppies chief executive officer, Ramachandran Ottapathu said the Big Birthday Bonanza Competition has grown and progressed to where it is thanks to the support of their partners and suppliers. He said the competition is aimed at thanking Batswana for the loyal support they give to Choppies stores throughout the country. “I want to recognise all who have participated in the competition on behalf of Choppies board and say a big thank you.

The commitment from our partners has been great and could do much better this year than the previous years,” said Ottapathu, who conducted the staff draw. The Choppies Big Birthday Bonanza competition started in 2003.
