BVF to decide on elections

BVF president, Daniel Molaodi is expected to step down after he indicated he would not seek re-election. At the last meeting involving affiliates in September, it was agreed that the elections will be held this month. Some affiliates had even suggested that the executive committee should resign, with the leadership accused of stalling the electoral process to remain in power.
Kabelo Marumo of Kalavango Volleyball Club said it has been a long wait for the elective congress. “In the last meeting, we prepared guidelines for elections. Normally what they do is to come with financial reports that are not in order so that we postpone the meeting. The excuse that they have been giving has been COVID-19,” he said.
Marumo said a lot of people had shown interest to contest and the entire executive committee knew they were going to lose. He said now it seems like the delays might result in some people losing interest in the contests. “Last year volleyball did not have activities despite getting funding from Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC).
The BNSC introduced a new funding model whereby better performing National Sport Associations (NSAs) receive better subversion. That means the Federation received a lot of money.
They promised us some tournaments but nothing happened,” said a disappointed Marumo. He added that there are many continental competitions this year but the Federation is quiet. Kutlwano chairperson, Gotlhe Rapotsanyane said they are still waiting to hear from the mother body regarding the financial report that was deferred during the last meeting. “We are waiting for the leadership to inform us about the next meeting. But it seems like there are some delays and we are contemplating to write them a letter to enquire,” he said.
Rapotsanyane said they were issued with COVID-19 return to play protocols and they were a bit steep financially. He said the situation has been bad at the club because Kutlwano lost Exclusive Insurance as a sponsor due to COVID-19. “We managed to keep all our players. Even though there was no action for the past two years, some of our players were able to play outside the country,” he said. BVF vice president, Ndibo Lebala said letters have been released this week, informing affiliates about a special congress scheduled for January 21. “The special congress is meant to discuss and approve the financial report that was not approved in the last meeting.
The special congress is also expected to approve election guidelines,” he said. Lebala said the meeting would also set a date for elective congress in February. Meanwhile, Radipotsane slammed BVF's decision of calling a special congress because last year they held a special congress and there is no need for another one.
