Political parties ready for Ledumadumane By-election

Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Eric Molale, issued a writ for the by election on December 28, 2021. Independent Electoral Act stipulates that by election for a council seat should be held within three months after the death or resignation of a councillor. "We are more than ready to hold by election for that ward. The name of our aspirant candidate will be released in January, 2022.
We will make sure that we do not repeat the mistake we made in previous by elections, where opposition parties competed against each other," opposition by election chairperson Phenyo Butale said in an interview on Tuesday.
On the other hand, Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) communication chairperson, Kagelelo Kentse, said they are prepared to hold the said by election, explaining that the party will announce the name of the candidate soon. IEC manager, elections affairs and field said they are prepared to conduct the by-election free and fairly like they did with the 11 by elections that was held on the 18th of December 2021.
Nominations for candidates will be received on the 13th of January 2022 and elections will be held on the 5th of February 2022.
