Let’s be responsible

A good number of citizens have managed to get vaccinated but it does not mean we are out of the woods yet, especially with the new Omicron variant in our midst. Besides just taking the precautions, we should also watch our wallets as we do not know what will happen next. The Presidential Task Force has always said a lockdown will always be one of the options to fight the virus. So, it could be wise to spare every thebe one has to use when times gets tougher.

We know of black tax at home villages, but before you want to appear as a good nephew, daughter or whatever, do make sure that you have prepared for the January return. School fees, transport fees and other obligations ought not to be forgotten.

This season is also a time when criminals want their share your hard earned cash. We thus call upon you Batswana to try your best to be safe and not walk through dangerous alleys at night. We urge women to only go out with trusted companions to avoid many incidents where some end up being raped.

We also urge motorists to keep away from alcohol and have special sober drivers to take them to their destinations. Ensure that your vehicle is fit for the trip you want to embark on to avoid any accidents and other setbacks.

We also call on music promoters and all other events organisers to be at their best to show government that we can co- exist with the virus if we follow the protocols. This is through ensuring that all attendants have vaccinated, checking temperatures, as well as ensuring that masks are worn and social distancing is kept.

We would also like to call on security officers and other government authorities that would be hard at work to cooperate with the public and assist them accordingly during this time. We also expect the public to make your work easier by cooperating and following orders.

Most importantly, let's all protect others and seek medical attention when we experience flu symptoms. It is mostly likely COVID-19 and we should follow set protocols until we are declared safe to mingle with the rest of the community.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to you all our readers, let’s do it again next year!
