The players tested positive for the virus on Monday. Nico’s match against Santa Green which was supposed to take place this weekend and a clash against Green Lovers, which was supposed to be on the 18th of December have been postponed due to the virus infection of players.

“The players who tested positive are to receive their clearance on the 17th of December,” said FDN league secretary Gosego Mogapi in a statement issued to clubs.

Nico has since issued a statement indicating that all the players who tested positive are recovering very well. The recent discovery of the virus in the Nico should be a source of worry to the club. The development is likely to affect Nico’s momentum in the league after the club registered maximum points in all their three opening matches.

The recent postponement come just days after a Premier League match between Police X1 and Extension Gunners was also postponed due several COVID-19 cases that were detected at the former. Police were also scheduled to play a league match in Otse yesterday against Gilport Lions. The match has since been postponed to allow Police XI players to recover from virus. The Botswana Football League has also today released a statement confirming that the match between Gaborone United and Security Systems has been postponed because of COVID-19 cases reported at the latter. There are fears that the recently discovered Omicron variant which is said to be highly transmittable, might disrupt football or sport activities in the country.
