BOPEU recovers P11 million – Mogwera

Addressing the BOPEU Congress at the official opening today in Palapye, Mogwera said various court battles launched to pursue various looters of the BOPEU coffers are yielding results and that she will continue to pursue more assets.
Mogwera also disclosed that the long-running court battles had cost the union millions of pula, with P5 million paid to a certain law firm in just 12 months. The developments, she said, were concerning.
Meanwhile, Mogwera has promised union members that they should reap returns on BOPEU investments, adding that upon retirement, members should receive dividends from these investments, an issue she said she will be pushing to make into policy.
The BOPEU president also announced that this will be her last term in office and that come 2024, she will not stand for elections as she believes the union would be stable enough to be steered by other able members.
However, Mogwera said her first term was short-lived, due to an illegal toppling of office that took 27 months for the courts to resolve and leadership to restore normalcy.
Mogwera is up for re-election but has the likes of nemesis Olefile Monakwe, Tshepho Watota, Scaba Khupe, Isaac Marobela, all vying for the same seat.
The congress will also elect the first deputy president, second deputy president and the treasurer, while other portfolios include the board of trustees and the appeals board.
