The 28-year-old man, who was reported to be seriously injured during the incident succumbed over the weekend, Botswana Police Service public relations officer, Assistant Commissioner Dipheko Motube said.

Motube told The Monitor that two more Zimbabwean suspects, aged 25 and 26, who are residents of Hillbrow, Johannesburg, South Africa, were arrested shortly after the robbery in Mmopane.

On Friday morning, three Zimbabwean armed robbery suspects were killed on the spot after attempting to attack and rob a Security Systems cash-in-transit motor vehicle near Engen Filling Station in Mmopane.

“The suspects were found with two pistols and nine live rounds of ammunition in their possession. Other suspects fled the scene and a manhunt has been launched to locate and arrest them,” he said.

Asked how many suspects were there in total, Motube said he was not certain about the number, but some of them managed to flee the crime scene and investigations into the matter are ongoing.

He further stated that the duo, Zimbabwean nationals, is likely to appear before court sometime this week.

Robbers are wreaking havoc in Botswana despite the law enforcement’s determination to fight the scourge as they continue to attempt to rob cash-in-transit vehicles. This incident occurred weeks after two more South African male suspects were arrested while in possession of an AK47 rifle, pistol and a number of live rounds of ammunition.

Mid-last month, two Batswana men were also fatally shot by the police during a robbery of a liquor outlet in Taung near Ramotswa. Then, the armed robbers made away with a large sum of cash, which was later recovered together with three handguns and other goods.
