Trivedi said WASBO was invited to contribute for the Apex Body for Botswana Sport Model. She also said their proposal was to have a secretariat at Ministerial level and a desk at the Apex Body but WASBO should maintain its independence.

Trivedi further said WASBO is currently engaged in the input of the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) Diversity, Equity and Inclusion draft policy. “BNSC is committed to fostering and supporting diversity, equity and inclusion in sport. And that it is committed to diversity, creating equity across it’s systems and structures and fostering and advancing a culture of inclusion,” she said.

Trivedi stated that the policy sets out the principles and requirements through which the Commission would enhance opportunities for diverse participation and harmoniously working together in sport. “That the Commission embraces and encourages differences in age, color, disability, ethnicity, family or marital status, gender identity and or expression, language, national origin, physical and mental ability, political affiliation, race, religion, sexual orientation and other characteristics that makes everyone unique,” the draft policy reads in part.

Trivedi said WASBO hosted induction and capacity building workshops for National Sport Associations (NSAs) women’s commissions and ex-officios overseeing the women’s commissions. “ The aim was to develop and strengthen skills, instincts, abilities and provide guidance on processes, procedures for the advancement of women and girls participation in sport.

The platform was also used to appreciate the expectations from both NSAs WASBO and key stakeholders like BNSC and Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC),” Trivedi said. Meanwhile, the affiliates were informed that the WASBO financial report was not presented during the AGM. WASBO secretary general, Keenese Katisenge- Tizhani explained that they have recently opened a bank account. “Our finances were being handled by BNSC but we expect to present financial reports moving forward. I appeal to our affiliates to assist us to fill the vacant post of a treasurer. We are looking for a BICA accredited candidate as a requirement from BNSC,” she said.

The newly appointed regional representative, Nozie Payet said regions should use platforms such as AGMs to voice out their grievances and express their needs. “In my few weeks as regional representative, I have realised that regions are faced with a lot of challenges. But I was quiet surprised that they did not take advantage of the AGM to engage meaningfully. It was the case even at the 2020 AGM,” she said.
