Kebapetse was appointed deputy managing director in February since there was no substantive managing director at the time, he was subsequently appointed acting managing director.

Kebapetse joined BOBS in 1998, before being appointed manager of Compulsory Standards in 2007 and then director of Regulatory Compliance in 2009, heading the then newly established Department of Regulatory Compliance.

As director of Regulatory Compliance, Kebapetse was responsible for the implementation of both the Standards Act of 1995 and the Weights and Measures Act of 2007, and their related regulations.

In order to enhance the achievement of the objectives of both the Standards Act of 1995 and the Weights and Measures Act of 2007, Kebapetse oversaw the identification of critical success partners, which include the Botswana Unified Revenue Service, the Botswana Police Service and the private sector including amongst others Business Botswana and the Botswana Exporters and Manufacturers Association, as well as the public sector.

The new MD was also instrumental in the establishment of the BOBS Francistown Branch, especially its Trade Metrology Unit and Compulsory Standards Unit, which constitutes the main part of the branch. The main purpose of the branch is to improve BOBS outreach and to enhance consumer protection services in the northern region.

Kebapetse also oversaw the development and adoption of various strategies, which include the revenue generation and cost containment strategy that aims to alleviate BOBS financial constraints by enhancing its revenue generation capacities and implementing necessary austerity measures towards cost containment. He also oversaw the development and adoption of the Information and Technology Strategy which is aimed at digitalising BOBS processes and services including provision of online training and examinations amongst others, which is in line with President Mokgweetsi Masisi’s Reset and Reclaim Agenda.

“While we recognise that more work still needs to be done, we have now laid down the requisite infrastructures in the form of policies and strategies. “It is time for implementation therefore as a way forward. “The 2022 to 2025 Strategy will focus more on same,” Kebapetse said when commenting on the progress made so far since his acting appointment.

He holds a BSc (Chemistry)(UB), MSc (Strategy) (University of Derby), and LLB (UNISA). He also holds a host of professional certificates in various areas of Standardisation, Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance matters as well as Corporate Governance.
