Molepolole police responded to the report, rushed the victim – a 17-year-old teenager – to Scottish Livingstone Hospital where he was certified dead by doctors upon arrival. According to Molepolole Police Station commander, Superintendent Benedict Matlho, investigators showed that the brothers had a misunderstanding prior to the stabbing incident.

Matlho stated that the incident occurred late in the evening between 7:30pm and 8pm.

“It is alleged that the duo started quarrelling in front of their parents who were sitting in front of the house and ended up following each other inside the house where the younger brother, a 16-year-old school dropout, ended up stabbing his elder brother on the chest with a sharp object,” he said.

The senior police officer further stated that whilst still sitting in front of the house, the duo’s parents saw the younger brother running outside the yard and few minutes later the older brother, a Form Three student came outside the house screaming "O nthabile (He stabbed me)" and fell down.

Matlho said they cannot reveal the name of the victim or suspect at this time. However, Matlho said the suspect has been arrested and is currently in police custody and likely to be arraigned before Molepolole Magistrate's Court sometime this week.

“We have engaged social workers to deal with the matter because the suspect is a minor and the duo are siblings,” he said.
