For years, Gerald residents have been pleading with the government to build primary schools in their locality. Their argument was that the current primary school is overwhelmed by the high number of registered learners. Gerald is one of the fastest-growing areas in the city.

“One of our highly anticipated developments includes the construction of a fully-fledged primary school at Gerald Estates, which is currently at the design stage. The best bidder has been identified and we are proceeding to the financial stage,” said Radisigo, before adding that he anticipates that the construction phase will begin soon.

The mayor further stated that the environmental management plan and geotechnical services have already been completed. According to him, the construction of staff houses at the school will also begin soon. “The construction of the 25 staff housing units tender will be floating from November to December. The total budget estimate for the project is P80 million,” Radisigo explained in his address.

Less than two years ago, a secondary school was constructed at Gerald. That was after the residents in the area complained that their children often have to travel long distances to attend secondary schools in other parts of the city. In addition, until recently the location did not have any shopping complex or any notable place of entertainment. Residents were often forced to go to the city centre to buy most of their basic needs or groceries, something they said was not convenient. However, a new shopping complex that has a supermarket, butchery and a bar was recently opened.
