Moyo, who then claimed there was a conspiracy plot to assassinate him, said he is back in politics and has thrown his hat in the ring for the Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) presidency when congress is held. The Monitor has learnt that Moyo will be battling it out with Tshekedi Khama and Biggie Butale.

“Yes, I will be contesting for the BPF presidency. I do not know who else is contesting. I do have business activities outside the country and I will be in and out. If elected it will then be a full-time assignment in particular for all key positions in the party. “The date of the congress is to be determined by the National Executive Committee (NEC). I will not quit politics. It must be understood I am a Motswana like anyone and I have the right to affiliate and contest for party positions. I was approached by some members of BPF to contest and I accepted,” Moyo told The Monitor on Friday. Moyo, who was on Saturday addressing a star rally at Tamasane in the Mmadinare constituency, said the reason why he came back is to ensure that the BPF wins the by-elections that Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) has given them.

“We have a memorandum of agreement with UDC. Therefore, our mandate is to help each other and deliver some wards given to BPF by UDC. As an aspirant president for the party, I cannot just fold my arms when my party needs me most,” he added.

On other issues, Moyo said if he gets elected, his aim is for opposition parties to cooperate for the 2024 General Election so that they win against Botswana Democratic Party.

He further said opposition parties could not win without cooperating for the 2024 General Election and they must address key issues that Batswana need to hear. The Monitor has, however, learnt that the BPF might hold its elective congress early next year.
