BFA NEC member loses R100,000 in SA

According to sources, a female driver who works for COSAFA stole Ncube’s bank card and used it to make purchases worth R116,113.57 (about P85,000). Part of the money was a contingency allowance for the team. The matter was reported to the South African police. The COSAFA Women’s Championship was held in Gqeberha from September 28, 2021 to October 9, 2021 and Ncube travelled as the BFA NEC female representative. “A fraud case has been opened against the suspect by the police.
The affected shops have agreed that they will refund the money from the cancelled vouchers by crediting it directly into her (Lobito) account,” said an insider at Lekidi.
Visa and Ncube’s bank have reportedly started the process of assisting her to recoup the money from the cancelled vouchers, working hand in hand with SA shops. The BFA’s head of national safety and security, Jonas Ikgopoleng is also reportedly investigating the matter.
Ncube was forced to remain in South Africa after the tournament, as she had to assist the police with investigations. Despite confirmation from various sources that Ncube’s card was stolen and used to carry out various transactions by a COSAFA driver, COSAFA media officer, Lynda Greeff said she was unaware of the incident. “No such incident has been brought to the attention of the COSAFA media office.
If this is indeed the case, it would be a matter for the police to investigate and as such we would not be in a position to comment. We suggest you contact the relevant authorities to ascertain whether a case has been opened,” she said in a written response. On the other hand, Ncube confirmed the incident and was confident the money will be recovered. “I am waiting for the police to give me information on the trial dates. Fortunately, most of the money can be recovered because the woman used the money to buy things such as furniture.
Recovering the money will, however, be a lengthy process,” she said.
