Matebele FC kicked off their campaign with an emphatic 4-1 victory on Wednesday against former Premier League side, Uniao Flamengo Santos. The newcomers are currently perched at the top of the log standings with a healthy goal difference.

The match against Santos was rescheduled to Wednesday following heavy rains, which forced four other fixtures to be abandoned on Saturday. When their match was stopped in the 40th-minute on Saturday, Matebele and Santos were tied at 2-2 after the new boys allowed the former Coca-Cola Cup winners to come back from two goals down. However, they were not about to repeat the same mistakes on Wednesday and sent early warning signs to fellow First Division campaigners. The club boasts some of the most experienced players in their books among them Monageng Thaele, Obonwe Moswate, Kemmy Pilato and Bobby Motlhabankwe.

This Saturday they face another side that has re-united with its former players including Arnold Mampori and Remmington Masuku. Chiefs were left disappointed on Wednesday when they conceded a goal in the dying minutes of the game against Black Forest. The two sides, highly favoured to battle each other for a top finish, played to a 1-1 draw. Magosi will once again rely on Bokamoso Mbambo who scored against Forest on Wednesday. They will also hope that Masuku passes a late fitness test after picking up an injury on Wednesday. Like Chiefs, Black Forest will hope to use the experience of the likes of David James, Terrence Mandaza and Bokamoso Kerebotswe to kickstart their winning ways this weekend. However, they face another tricky side, Matebejane who registered 1-1 draw away to Red Sparks on Wednesday.

The two sides meet at Matebejane’s hunting place, Fighters grounds in Mogoditshane. At Tlokweng VDC grounds, second-placed Tlokweng United host Motaung Young Fighters. United are oozing with confidence following their 1-0 win over Holy Ghost. However, they face a side that has been resting since Saturday.

Taung Young Strikers who also last played on Saturday will take on Red Sparks. Fresh from Wednesday’s 4-1 loss, Santos host Mochudi Rovers while Broadhurst United host Holy Ghost at SSG grounds. All the matches kick-off at 4pm.
