According to the state, the 24-year-old taximan, Omphemetse George allegedly defiled the 15-year-old girl on June 1, 2021, at Chadibe village.

When George appeared for arraignment on Tuesday before Magistrate Thabang Chokwe, prosecutor Tsagae Marape told the court that investigations in the matter were complete.

“We, therefore, pray to be given a date for the Initial Case Management Conference (ICMC). We are not opposed to the accused being granted conditional bail,” Marape said.

He added: “We propose that the accused should be granted bail on condition that he binds himself with P1,000, brings one surety who shall bind him/herself in the same amount, not interfere with state witnesses, attend court as and when required to do so, reports himself to Tatitown Police Station in the first week of the beginning of every month and shall not be reasonably suspected to have committed any offence whilst on bail".

Magistrate Chokwe then acceded to the bail conditions proposed by the state.

Sources privy to the matter state George found himself on the wrong side of the law after he took a minor to his friend’s residence in Chadibe where he had sex with her for the night.

The parents of the minor became suspicious after they discovered that she did not sleep at home.

Upon questioning the minor, the sources added, she revealed where she had spent the night and what she had done which gave rise to the matter being reported to the police leading to the subsequent arrest of George.

George will appear in court on February 21, 2022, for ICMC.
