Two Perish In Separate Accidents

Sejelo Police Station traffic officer, Assistant Superintendent Ernest Sesinyi told The Monitor that they recorded the first fatal accident on Thursday along Kanye/Moshupa road.
He added the other happened near the police station intersection on Saturday morning.
Sesinyi said on Thursday, a 52-year-old woman who was driving a Toyota Yaris from Kanye to Gaborone lost her life after she lost control of her vehicle. She then veered into oncoming traffic colliding with a bus that was travelling from Gaborone heading towards Kanye.
“We suspect that something might have happened and caused the woman who was driving alone to lose control of the car and cause a collision,” Sesinyi said.
“She was rushed to Kanye Seventh Day Adventist Hospital where upon arrival she was certified dead by the doctors.”
Sesinyi further stated that the public transport bus had 12 passengers on board who all escaped with minor injuries, were treated and released the same day.
Meanwhile, Sesinyi said on Saturday morning around 7:45am by the Sejelo Police Station intersection, a Mercedes Benz from Jwaneng hit a biker and killied him on the spot after failing to stop at the junction. He said the biker, a 43-year-old man, was taking a turn into Moshupa/Kanye road when he met his fate.
“We suspect that the 48-year-old Mercedes Benz driver, who failed to stop by the junction, might have been speeding looking at the impact of the accident. The driver was in the company of one passenger, a woman. Both escaped the accident without injuries,” he said.
Sesinyi stated that the Mercedes Benz driver is currently in police custody assisting in the investigation and is likely to appear before Kanye Magistrate’s Court sometime this week.
Asked about the offence he has been charged with, Sesinyi said they have not yet laid any against the Mercedes Benz driver as they are waiting for the deceased’s post mortem results to determine the degree of injuries.
“That is when we will be able to charge him but he is likely to face causing death by dangerous driving. There is a stop sign by the intersection and the Mercedes Benz driver was supposed to have reduced the speed and observe when approaching the junction,” he said.
The traffic officer called on motorists to drive at recommended speed limits, obey road signs and save lives. Sesinyi said overspeeding is dangerous because should a mistake happen innocent people would needlessly lose their lives.
